Camp Julian Olivas, Pampanga — The Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) seized at least R60 million worth of marijuana in a buy-bust operation in the City Of San Fernando, this province, and arrested three suspected drug traders last Saturday. PDEA Director-General Arturo G. Cacdac Jr. identified the suspects as Menalao Flores, 40; Israel Flores, 32; and Carlu Quiambao, 37, all residents of Baliuag, Bulacan. PH analytics industry is born

Some two years ago, I wrote an enthusiastic piece about the birth of the analytics industry in the Philippines. Back then, analytics was being championed by a group called “Analitika”, a consortium of high-level personalities from government, the academe and the private sector. Analitika was an initiative of IBM and its mission was to establish the Philippines as the world’s epicenter of this specialized field. For those unaware, analytics is the study of massive amounts of data to derive insights, patterns and meaning used for decision making.

Armed men kill 12 in Central African Republic

BANGUI (Reuters) - Armed men killed 12 people in villages in Central African Republic, local officials said on Sunday, in the first violence since Faustin-Archange Touadera was confirmed as president last Tuesday after an election many hoped would help end attacks.
