|||London - Harry Kane has set his sights on winning the Golden Boot and inspiring more English prospects to come through the academy ranks after joining an elite group of English strikers.
Kane’s double in Tottenham’s 3-0 win over Bournemouth on Sunday meant he joined Andy Cole, Les Ferdinand, Robbie Fowler and Alan Shearer in scoring 20 Premier League goals in consecutive seasons.
Kane scored 21 league goals last season and matched that at White Hart Lane, pulling two ahead of Leicester’s Jamie Vardy in the charts.
Asked about the Golden Boot race, Kane said: ‘Of course it would be great — great for the Englishman that does it and great for the country.’
When told he had become the fifth Englishman to hit 20 or more in successive Premier League seasons, Kane added: ‘It’s not bad company at all. As a striker that’s all I want to do.
‘It was a goal of mine to do better than I did last season. After the first few games there was a lot of talk about whether I would, but I’ve stayed focused and it’s great to get to 21 in the league.’
And Spurs academy graduate Kane, 22, hopes his scoring exploits will encourage more Premier League managers to give opportunities to young players instead of importing expensive signings.
Kane said: ‘If I can be a role model or if I can make a manager play a young player coming through, rather than buy, that’s incredible.’
