Tshwane metro cop shot while on duty

A Tshwane Metro Police officer was shot and critically wounded during an operation at an informal settlement in Hercules.

Pretoria – A Tshwane Metro Police officer was shot and critically wounded during an operation at an informal settlement in Hercules in Pretoria on Tuesday.

Metro police spokesperson Senior Superintendent Isaac Mahamba said the incident happened at around 11am when five TMPD officers responded to a complaint about criminal activities taking place at a settlement called Gomora in Hercules.

“Upon arrival the officers were attacked by four suspects,” Mahamba said. “They shot one officer and assaulted another one.

“They were both rushed to the nearest hospital. The officer who was shot is in critical condition and the assaulted officer sustained minor injuries.”

Mahamba said both police and metro police rushed to the scene after officers called for back-up. “They managed to arrest three of the suspects, aged between 28 and 31, and are currently hunting for the fourth suspect who is still at large with the official firearm taken on the scene.
