Embattled DTES SRO residents celebrate a victory as judge awards them $450 each

Residents of the problem-plagued Lion hotel in Vancouver’s Downtown Eastside are celebrating a victory after complaining to the Residential Tenancy Branch that the low-income rooming house had no heat or hot water for long periods. After alerting the City of Vancouver the building was without heat or hot water last fall and having building inspectors check their rooms in November, eight tenants of the rundown Powell Street hotel filed a grievance with the branch.
