Tokayev named the condition without which UN renewal is impossible

0

Tengrinews.kz — Kassym-Jomart Tokayev has outlined a critical condition for the renewal of the UN. The President made this statement during his speech at the "SCO Plus" summit, with reference to the Akorda press service.
The Head of State noted that Kazakhstan highly values UN Secretary-General António Guterres' contribution to the protection of international law.
According to Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, the reform initiated by the Secretary-General should make the Organization more effective and result-oriented while preserving its universal character, though the success of these transformations depends on the political will and responsibility of member states.
At the same time, the President highlighted the growing role of responsible middle powers:

"I believe they can and must facilitate dialogue between different centers of power and the development of collective solutions. Their positions and initiatives should be reflected in global governance mechanisms. Kazakhstan is ready to actively support this process. The institutional renewal of the UN is impossible without strengthening preventive diplomacy. Collective efforts are needed to foster a culture of conflict prevention and peaceful dispute resolution. In line with this course, Kazakhstan supported the initiative of the People's Republic of China this July, becoming a member of the Convention on the Establishment of the International Mediation Organization."

According to the Head of State, global stability increasingly depends on the responsible development of artificial intelligence.

"Universal rules are needed to unlock the creative potential of artificial intelligence, prevent its uncontrolled use, and bridge the digital divide. At Kazakhstan's initiative, the UN ESCAP Asia-Pacific Center for Digital Solutions will be established in Almaty. The center can and must help scale best practices, primarily in the interests of developing countries," said Kassym-Jomart Tokayev.

The President also stated that criticism of the United Nations is largely justified; however, there is still no alternative to the UN in the world. The Head of State called for enhancing the organization's effectiveness and emphasized its central role in the international system.
