Tengrinews.kz – Yerzhan Kazykhan has been appointed to represent President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev in negotiations with the United States.
By a presidential decree, Yerzhan Khozeuly Kazykhan, Permanent Representative of the Republic of Kazakhstan to the United Nations Office and other international organizations in Geneva (Switzerland), has been assigned the duties of the President’s representative in negotiations with the United States on key issues of bilateral cooperation.
This was reported by the press service of Akorda.
In the autumn of 2023, Kazykhan was appointed Assistant to the President of Kazakhstan for International Affairs.
Over the years, Kazykhan has served as Kazakhstan’s representative to the United Nations in New York, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to Cuba and Austria, Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs, and Assistant to the President. He also held the post of Minister of Foreign Affairs of Kazakhstan and served as Ambassador to the United Kingdom, Ireland, Iceland, and the United States. Later, he worked as the President’s Special Representative for International Cooperation. In January 2022, Kazykhan was appointed Deputy Head of the Presidential Administration.
Earlier, on January 9, President Tokayev received the credentials of the ambassadors of the United States and Bulgaria in Astana.
At that time, U.S. Ambassador to Kazakhstan Julie Stufft stated that relations between Kazakhstan and the United States are at their highest level in history and continue to develop actively. She emphasized that Presidents Tokayev and Donald Trump remain in constant contact and maintain a trusting dialogue.

“Our presidents, President Tokayev and President Trump, have a very close relationship. They will see each other again soon and speak again soon, I'm sure. I just met with President Tokayev and we talked about our priorities for this bilateral relationship, and I know that we have the full support of President Trump in doing that, and I'm very excited to expand this relationship with the support of both presidents. Yes, I had a very, very good meeting with President Tokayev and his team, and also met yesterday with the foreign ministry, and we have a lot of work to do,” Stufft said.

According to the ambassador, the momentum generated by President Tokayev’s recent visit to Washington should be used to further develop trade and economic, cultural, defense, and humanitarian ties, as well as people-to-people contacts between the two countries.
