Steel industry execs cite critical role of trade and standards in achieving green goals

Representatives from the global steel industry have underlined the importance of trade and common emissions measurement methodologies in achieving their goals of reducing carbon emissions from the sector and reshaping low carbon emission steel value chains. During a 12 September session at the WTO’s Public Forum, the executives also highlighted efforts such as the Steel Standards Principles initiative, launched at the COP28 UN Climate Change Conference last year, in helping achieve their aims.

WTO announces winner of 2024 Essay Award for Young Economists

The winner of the 2024 WTO Essay Award for Young Economists is Carlos Góes of the University of California, San Diego. His paper, “Trade, Growth, and Product Innovation”, was ranked first by the Selection Panel. He was presented with his prize of CHF 5,000 at the annual meeting of the European Trade Study Group in Athens (Greece) on 12 September 2024.

Half of respondents plan to spend more online in festive season: Report

Around 50 per cent of respondents are planning to spend more on online shopping during the upcoming festive season, an IPSOS survey commissioned by Amazon said on Thursday. The survey claims to have captured replies from 7,263 people in July-August 2024 across 35 centres including Delhi NCR, Allahabad, Lucknow, Mathura, Muradabad, Etawah, Jalandhar, Jaipur, Udaipur, Kolkata etc. Around 89 per cent of respondents expressed their excitement for the upcoming festivities, with 71 per cent indicating their intension to shop online.
