Barton loses Aluko defamation case and ordered to pay £339K
March 11 – Former women’s England international Eni Aluko has won a legal victory over Joey Barton, bringing an end to a libel case that unfolded against the backdrop of Barton’s ever-mounting legal troubles.
Aluko has been awarded more than £300,000 in damages and legal costs after successfully suing Barton for defamatory posts on the social media platform X. The case centred on two posts made in 2024, but the wider proceedings examined a much broader pattern of online conduct.
