DENEMETHY (4.40 Market Rasen, nap)
He has taken well to chasing with a win over this course and distance the highlight on Boxing Day. He has since run well at Leicester and Exeter when the bottomless ground was on the testing side. These decent conditions should be right up his street and trainer Fergal O’Brien has been in decent form.
GLORY FIGHTER (3.52 Newcastle, nb)
He made a good return to the sand when a close-up second over course and distance last time. The handicapper has left his mark alone and he can step forward with that promising effort under his belt.
FLYING SCOTSMAN (1.50 Newcastle, treble)
He took advantage of his basement mark to score easily here last time. He had to sit and suffer for a long way until a gap appeared and he had enough zip to push through. A 4lb rise for that is more than fair and he’s won races from 19lb higher than his current mark.
WILLIAM DEWHIRST (3.22 Newcastle, Lucky 15)
He scooted in yet again here on Thursday. That made it six wins from his past eight outings so he’s clearly still at the top of his game. A 5lb penalty won’t put the brakes on in this very winnable contest with Paul Mulrennan staying in the saddle.
