Round 1
Both men out in orthodox and Cejudo takes the center early. Lots of feints and movement from both as Cejudo backs Song up to the warning track.
Song throws a couple calf kicks, Cejudo blitzes in with combinations. Neither land all that well. Both men feinting a lot and Cejudo lands a body kick. First good shot of the night.
Cejudo punches the leg and then jumps for a knee but no joy. Now Song advancing and Cejudo throws a calf kick. Song jabs to the body. A lot of patience from both men. Song lands a good calf kick.
Another calf kick from Song and Cejudo pushes forward now. Cejudo tries a high kick but comes up short. Very little meaningful action through 3 minutes.
Good calf kick from Song as Cejudo stepped in. And Song back on the advance. Cejudo really waiting to pull the trigger. Charges in and lands a left. OOO Cejudo lands a low kick that deads Song’s lead leg for a moment. He almost dead stepped there.
Song stepping through it and Cejudo tries again. Now Cejudo shoots but he doesn’t commit and Song defends. Cejudo tries to level change but he cannot cover the distances. Song is much bigger and setting a good space. And a good right hand from Song. And another combination as Cejudo starts to force the issue.
MMA Fighting scores the round 10-9 Song.
Round 2
Song takes the center to start Round 2. And Cejudo goes right to attacking the lead leg. That’s a plan for him when Song comes forward.
And when he doesn’t, Cejudo tries to charge in with wild combos. That’s not working all that well as Song slides out of range. But Cejudo keeps hitting that lead leg at least. And Song returns the favor. And that one got Cejudo to switch stances to southpaw.
Cejudo is clearly bothered by the range. He cannot cover distance attacking and Song lands a nice right hand off a feint. Cejudo tries to time a single-leg but Song easily shucks it off.
Good left hook for Cejudo on an inside combination. Song now marching Cejudo around the cage with relative ease. Song lands low and short break in the action but Cejudo waves him on.
Nice left hook from Song. And a low kick gets Cejudo stepping funny. Song working all levels and giving Cejudo the business this round. He simply cannot land anything of note.
Cejudo is advancing now though and he lands a lead right. And a good combo! Cejudo having some success as he accepts getting hit to then return fire. And Song shoots a takedown but gets stuffed.
Great left hook from Song. Cejudo starts swinging at him and gets Song retreating. That’s gotta be the way forward for Triple C.
MMA Fighting scores the round 10-9 Song, 20-18 Song overall.
Round 3
Cejudo needs to win three in a row and to do that he’s either gotta commit to a wild brawl or wrestle. He can’t keep playing range kickboxing.
Cejudo throwing with intent this round right away, dipping and firing the left down the pipe. Song puts return fire at him but Cejudo picking up the pace. Now we’re starting to get a fight as Song returns the favor!
Song bleeding on his left cheek. Cejudo really pressing forward now and tries a jumping knee but fails. Song is equal to this increase from Cejudo thus far, firing back just as much.
Low blow from Song pauses the action and Cejudo is mad about it. Song says it wasn’t low but replay has it pretty close to low. Not a direct hit but probably moved the cup around in a bad way. Short break and we restart.
Cejudo committing to the brawl now but Song looking slick in the pocket. Nice stepping knee from Song. He’s popping the jab and just seeing the world right now. He’s quicker, better defense, bigger, and having himself a day so far.
Nice shifting right hand from Cejudo lands but Song eats it. And there’s an eyepoke from Song. Cejudo immediately complains to the ref and Herzog gives a talking too. Oh, that was a bad one. Both eyes. And Cejudo tells Herzog he needs to “take a f*cking point” which, yes.
Cejudo taking plenty of time here and he should.
Round 3 continued
Cejudo is taking his full 5 minutes. Herzog almost trying to restart this. Crowd is jeering. Commentary team is being dumb as hell. Full time goes and Cejudo agrees to continue so we go.
And Song is right out after Cejudo, who still might have bad vision. Song is fresh after the long break and he is in full attack mode. Cejudo moving away, content to wait out the round and Song is trying to land something major with short time.
Jumping knee from Song misses and Cejudo gets to the bell. He then yells that he can’t see.
“I can’t f*cking see!”
MMA Fighting scores the round 10-9 Song, 30-27 Song overall.
Round 4
Cejudo has said he cannot see about 6 times in the corner. Says it’s blurry and he can’t see. Doctor comes in and I’ll be shocked if this continues.
Cejudo is now talking to the doctor. Herzog is saying he’s going to start the round and then go to the scorecards. This is a total clusterf*ck.
Jason Herzog is not handling this well at all and the fight is now over and we’re going to the scorecards. The audience is upset. Song is upset. Cejudo is ... I’m not going to say what I’m thinking.
This is going to the judges but it’s dumb as hell.
