FANS loved Cole Palmer’s reaction to finding out how the Panenka penalty got its name.

The Chelsea star, 22, executed a perfect Panenka penalty during the second half of his side’s 4-3 win over Tottenham last weekend.

Having slotted his first spot kick of the afternoon into the corner, Palmer coolly dinked his second down the middle, and beyond the helpless Fraser Forster.

The Panenka spot kick was born at the Euro 1976 final, when Czech star Antonin Panenka chipped the ball down the middle to beat West Germany in a penalty shoot-out.

Speaking to Belgian channel Playsport after the game, Palmer was introduced to the technique’s history.

The interviewer asked: “The second penalty, you know who Antonin Panenka is?”

Palmer, staring blankly, replied: “Who?”

The interviewer continued: “Antonin Panenka. He was the father of your second penalty.

“The first one who did it, in a Euro finals.”

Palmer then responded: “Oh, is that why it’s called that? I didn’t even know that.”

The Chelsea star then smiled as the interviewer said: “I learned you something, I am happy!”

Fans loved Palmer’s response, with one writing on Reddit: “Please do not media train him ever!”

A second commented: “Effortlessly hilarious this guy man.”

While a third claimed: “This guy is a treasure.”

Another added: “This man is the perfect footballer.”

Palmer’s Panenka was already his 11th goal of the season.

The England star is not in Chelsea’s 25-man Europa Conference League squad and has been given this mid-week off.

Enzo Maresca‘s side have made a 7,000-mile round trip to face Astana in Kazakhstan this afternoon.

Palmer is set to return to action this Sunday as the Blues host Brentford in a West London derby.

The match is set to commence in an unusual 7pm Sunday kick-off slot.
