San Jose Sharks debut catchy sequel video to ‘Holiday Sweater’

0

Ten years after debuting their first Christmas-themed musical video, “Holiday Sweater,” the San Jose Sharks have come out with another rather catchy holiday season jingle.

The Sharks’ rap song, “Holiday Inflatables,” with Dr. Dre-inspired keyboards during the chorus, appeared on the Sharks’ social media accounts on Wednesday.

Lasting about five minutes, the video features singing – some off-key, some not — by players Mario Ferraro, Cody Ceci, Fabian Zetterlund, William Eklund, Jack Thompson, Nico Sturm, television play-by-play announcer Randy Hahn, and former San Jose goalie Mackenzie Blackwood, who was traded to the Colorado Avalanche on Monday.

The video, shot inside SAP Center, also features appearances by Sharks rookies Macklin Celebrini and Will Smith and team icons Patrick Marleau and Joe Thornton.

The current Sharks players are wearing, naturally, holiday sweaters that read ‘Merry Sharkmas.’ They’re also holding oversized candy canes, with Christmas lights around their necks.

Ferraro opens the song, “We are team teal coming out of the west, where the holiday decorations are the best. You drive down the streets; they’re unmistakable. Holiday decor that is inflatable.”

Cutting to a shot of Thornton and Marleau sitting in a car they likely would never own or drive (Thornton is wearing a watch that might be worth more than the vehicle), Ferraro continues, “My neighbors drive by, and they all stare at festive characters filled with air. Sun goes down; they’re as big as a blimp. When the sun comes up, my boys go limp.”

Blackwood sings later, “This holiday season, you won’t be bored. Just grab yourself an extension cord. Plug it in, and it will glow. Get lovey-dovey with the mistletoe.”

Sturm later chimes in, “I’m not a good rapper, I’m not a good rhymer. But all my inflatables are set to a timer. I don’t got to be home to throw the switch, my holiday display blows up without a hitch.

“If you put them up, you better tie them down, cuz they could float off to the very next town. If you don’t like mine, well that’s a bummer. I’m keeping them up until next summer.”

“These players are truly ushering in the next generation of Sharks hockey, energizing our current fan base and inspiring new fans,” said Doug Bentz, the Sharks’ chief marketing officer, said in a statement. “As an entertainment organization, it’s important we showcase both the players’ skills on the ice but also their personalities off the ice. The future is not only teal; it’s fun.”

Here’s the original “Holiday Sweater” video, which had over 350,000 views on YouTube as of this week.
