Bill Belichick reportedly interviewing for the North Carolina job is beyond weird
It’s been a foregone conclusion that former New England Patriots coach Bill Belichick would return to football in 2025 after a year working in media.
However, North Carolina’s college football coaching vacancy is not the job anyone expected him to interview for this winter… at all. Like … what?!
Inside Carolina’s Grant Hughes dropped this bombshell report on Thursday that Belichick actually interviewed for the North Carolina coaching job this week.
Yes, that Bill Belichick. The 72-year-old one that won all those Super Bowls and worked with Tom Brady. The guy with the hoodie who never smiles. That guy. We’re not kidding. This is a thing that reportedly happened.
Replacing Mack Brown with perhaps the most famous NFL coach of all time would be, well, quite a swing for the Tar Heels. Belichick has surprisingly never coached at the college level, so choosing to do so for the first time in his seventies would be quite a leap.
Is it that he feels he won’t get an NFL job in the next cycle? Is it that he wants to experience college football coaching before he retires? Is he just doing this to brush up on his interview skills before pro teams start calling in January?
Belichick entering the world of college football in the era of NIL, TikTok and the transfer portal would be absolutely wild to say the least. We have no idea if this will actually happen, but even a reported interview is jaw-dropping.
