New York City Marathon: Two million spectators line streets to watch  50,000 runners tackle 26.2 mile course

The action kicked off at 8am on Sunday with the professional wheelchair race. The women's elite race began at 8:35am, half an hour before the men's elite runners took on the punishing course.
