Virginia managed a brilliant backdoor cover with a garbage time rally in blowout loss at Clemson

Virginia suffered a tough road loss to No. 10 Clemson on Saturday, but the team made sure to cover the spread right before the final whistle.

A 65-yard touchdown throw from Cavaliers quarterback Tony Muskett to wide receiver Ethan Davies late in the game helped Virginia cover the +20.5 spread for the game.

Clemson took a 38-10 lead into the fourth quarter but the Tigers’ defense finally started to crack as Virginia scored three touchdowns over the final 15 minutes. The Cavaliers nearly blew the cover after allowing a final Clemson touchdown with 1:54 left in the game, but Muskett’s touchdown 15 seconds later made sure Virginia bets cashed.

That was a brutal bad beat for Clemson bettors, but Virginia bettors got a chance to rejoice on a day where nothing seemed to go right for the Cavs.

Hey, if your college football team can’t win, having them cover the spread is the next best thing.
