Trevor Lawrence Made The Mistake Of Talking Trash To Jaylon Johnson

0

It appears the Jacksonville Jaguars came into the London game with a lot of confidence. Or at least their quarterback did. Trevor Lawrence doesn’t have a reputation for talking trash, at least according to the national media. However, that might just be the benefit of playing in a smaller market. Jaylon Johnson found out during the game on Sunday that the Jaguars quarterback doesn’t mind jawing. He certainly had the nerve to yap at the Chicago Bears cornerback. Johnson detailed what happened on The Up & Adams podcast.

Midway through the 3rd quarter, Jacksonville was deep in Bears territory, trying to claw back into the game after falling behind 21-3. They ran a sweep to the left side when tight end Josiah Deguara tried to block Johnson. When the corner moved to make the tackle, Deguara got caught holding. Lawrence then shouted at Johnson that he wasn’t even that good of a cornerback. Naturally, the Bears star took that personally. So, when Lawrence tried testing him later in the 4th quarter, Johnson reminded him why that rarely works.

Trevor Lawrence didn’t even try backing up his words.

In reality, he threw at Johnson only twice the entire game. One was a 5-yard completion, and the other was that long pass breakup. For somebody saying Johnson wasn’t even that good, Lawrence sure didn’t look his way too often. He instead took the easy way out, going after Jaylon Jones on the other side, who was filling in for the injured Tyrique Stevenson and Terell Smith. In reality, Lawrence may have been talking more about himself. For somebody who’s getting paid $55 million a year, he looked exactly like a “not that good” player. It is curious why there hasn’t been more criticism of him, given his lofty draft status and massive contract. Most likely, it’s because most of the outrage is directed at the organization, which has been a hot mess for years.
