The long Cowboys-Steelers weather delay led to NBC giving us way too much Jason Garrett

0

The good news about the NFL delaying Sunday Night Football’s matchup between the Dallas Cowboys and Pittsburgh Steelers was that the league prioritized players’ and coaches’ safety. The last thing anyone wants is folks playing a game in dangerous weather. That’s no fun.

The bad news is it led to NBC’s studio awkwardly trying to fill air time for almost an hour and a half. This meant we got a much bigger dosage of Jason Garrett, Chris Simms, and Devin McCourty than we originally bargained for. After a certain amount of time, it became abundantly clear that NBC didn’t know what to do with itself as it tried to fill in the gaps during portions of the broadcast that would usually be filled with the white background noise known as a Sunday night game.

Poor Maria Taylor for trying to extract anything additionally interesting or noteworthy from a crew featuring the robotic Garrett, the glorified steakhead in Simms, and the definition of milquetoast in McCourty.

Naturally, NFL fans had a lot of thoughts and jokes about NBC scrambling to use more of its studio show when everyone was waiting for a night game between arguably the league’s two most popular teams.
