Jerusalem and Castillo make weight for WBC title fight
On sunday fight fans in the Philippines will see WBC Minimumweight champion Melvin Jerusalem (22-3, 12) make his first defense as he takes on unbeaten Mexican challenger Luis Castillo (21-0-1, 3) at the Mandaluyong City College.
On Saturday, ahead of the bout, the two men took part in their weigh in with both men coming in at an identical 104.8lbs for the bout.
At the weigh in both men looked incredibly confident with both predicting they'd win by KO. Both also seemed at ease with the conditions, with Castillo suggesting they were similar to his home of Los Mochis, the same area as his manager and trainer Eduardo Montiel, the brother of former multi-weight world champion Fernando Montiel who famously scored a win over Z Gorres in the Philippines.
The bout will be broadcast on “Blow By Blow”, and is the first since Manny Pacquiao promised to promote at least 1 world title fight a year in the Philippines, and bring back Blow by Blow, which is now returning to have its third separate run. Pacquiao’s offer to promote the bout saw Castillo and his team being lured to the Philippines, despite originally wanting to host the bout over in Mexico.
