‘I’m not going to have compassion for him’: Canelo expects to dominate Berlanga
Canelo Alvarez and Edgar Berlanga have engaged in some heated pre-fight trash talk, all of which comes to a head on Saturday night.
Fight week is underway for this Satuday’s headlining event featuring Canelo Alvarez, who will defend his super middleweight world titles against Edgar Berlanga on Mexican Independence Day weekend. And in anticipation of the event PBC releases its video feature ‘Gloves Off,’ which recaps most of the build up to the main event on September 14.
It all started at the press conferences where Canelo and Berlanga would exchange many threats about what’s to come on fight night.
“I’m not going to have compassion for him,” Canelo said. “He needs 20 like him to give me a little problem.”
Berlanga, needless to say, feels much differently, and emphasizes the fact that he’s not here to bow down to Canelo’s celebrity or status in boxing, looking to make his own mark and take over the division.
“Canelo, he likes when people respect him,” Belanga says. “He feels like they’re his dog, like ‘I’m the guy that’s getting you paid.’ He’s a guy that’s cocky, he’s arrogant, you know, and he’s smiling in my face.
“Where we from we don’t respect big homies. I don’t care if he got all those titles. I’m not going to give you respect because I want your spot.
“I know the he’s a guy that has a lot of experience, so I got to be on my A-game that night. I can’t slip up, I can’t make mistakes.”
Both fighters are promising to bring the action once the bell rings, with both prediciting conclusive knockouts. Until then, watch the full video feature in the video link at the top.
