Angel Reese shocked the WNBA world by announcing that her rookie season is over
Chicago Sky rookie forward Angel Reese stunned the WNBA world by alluding that her first year in the big leagues has already come to a close.
Even though the Sky hold a 2024 WNBA playoff spot and still have six games left during the regular season, Reese alluded through her social media accounts on Saturday night that she was done playing for the season.
“What a year,” Reese wrote. “I never would have imagined the last bucket of my rookie season would be a 3 but maybe that was God saying give them a taste of what they will be seeing more of in Year 2.”
What a year. The Sky listed Reese as questionable for Sunday’s game against the Minnesota Lynx with a wrist injury sustained against the Los Angeles Sparks, and the team confirmed after Reese’s announcement that she was done for the season.
“After undergoing further medical evaluation after the September 6 game against Los Angeles, Angel Reese has been ruled out for the rest of the 2024 season with a wrist injury, the team announced today,” the Sky shared. “The team will provide medical updates later as needed.”
Outside of her historic double-double game streak, Reese set the WNBA rookie records for double-doubles and rebounds in a season last month. She was a contender for the league’s Rookie of the Year honor, alongside Indiana Fever guard Caitlin Clark.
With Reese having such a breakout year, her not being able to finish her rookie campaign is a pretty shocking development for the Sky and the WNBA as a whole.
