Possible Looming Cut Might Be A Chicago Bears Target

0

Matthew Judon would’ve been a great addition to the Chicago Bears ahead of this season. Unfortunately, the two sides couldn’t come together on a contract extension. As a result, the four-time Pro Bowler was traded to Atlanta instead. GM Ryan Poles wasn’t discouraged. He feels the team has enough talent on defense to be fine, but he also won’t stop looking for opportunities to improve. Current rumblings suggest the Bears could be active on the waiver wire as teams begin cutting down their rosters. It is almost impossible somebody of Judon’s caliber will become available, but with some luck the Bears may find what they need.

According to rumors coming out of Seattle, Darrell Taylor could be on his way out. The former 2nd round pick lacks the versatility new head coach Mike McDonald prefers from his edge players, especially against the run. He may decide to keep someone who does. That means Taylor, who has 21.5 sacks in 49 games, might become available.

Taylor is exactly what the Chicago Bears are looking for.

He has good size, length, and quickness. His reputation as a lacking run defender may not appeal to head coach Matt Eberflus as a potential starter, but he would be a perfect situational pass rusher. The Chicago Bears like to attack quarterbacks in waves. For that, they need good depth. Right now, they don’t appear to have it. Demarcus Walker is more of an interior rush presence. Austin Booker is a rookie. Jacob Martin has been hurt. Dominique Robinson still can’t translate strong practices to games. They need another piece to strengthen the rotation. Taylor would fit that role perfectly. Two things need to happen for this to come true. Seattle must cut him, and the eight teams in front of Chicago have to pass him on the waiver wire. Given the overall need of pass rush around the league, those are tough odds. Still, it is something to watch over the next week.
