Chepe Mariscal aims for second-round 'bad end' for Damon Jackson at UFC on ESPN 61
LAS VEGAS – Chepe Mariscal really likes the type of matchup he’s got for UFC on ESPN 61.
This Saturday, Mariscal (16-6 MMA, 3-0 UFC) takes on veteran Damon Jackson on the main card of the event, which goes down at the UFC Apex. Mariscal believes his style to be a difficult one for Jackson (23-6-1 MMA, 6-4-1 UFC), and he has all the intent to show that come fight night.
“With his IQ and everything else, he’s good at calculating his takedowns and everything else,” Mariscal told reporters at Wednesday’s UFC on ESPN 61 media day. “I feel like he’s not that big of a brawler and if he runs into a brawler it’s kind of like, you know, a bad end for him, and I feel like this is that kind of fight. I feel like he’s really got to use his IQ to fight me.”
Mariscal enters the card with a good amount of hype. He’s on a six-fight winning streak, with three of those victories coming inside the octagon. His goal is to make a statement on Saturday and put out Jackson.
“I definitely want a finish,” Mariscal said. “I think he’s looking for a finish. I feel like if you have to do good in this business, you have to be a finisher and yeah, I feel like for the second it’s going to be the goal.”
