Mics picked up what Giants manager Bob Melvin told the umpire before getting ejected over a dreadful strike call

Thursday was getaway day for the Giants as they were set to finish up their road series with the Nationals before heading back to San Francisco. But for manager Bob Melvin, it ended up being a particularly short afternoon at the ballpark.

Melvin couldn’t make it through the first inning before an ejection. But let’s be honest: He had every reason to be upset with home plate umpire Stu Scheurwater.

With Mark Canha at the plate and the bases loaded, Scheurwater punched out the Giants first baseman on a 2-2 changeup that was nowhere near the strike zone. The pitch was high and outside, actually crossing the left-handed batter’s box. Canha was in disbelief over the call, and Melvin let Scheurwater (and everyone watching the broadcast) hear it.

Mics picked up much of the argument. (Warning: NSFW language)

Melvin could be heard saying to Scheurwater:

“That’s not even close … I don’t hear you. I’m standing up for my players. You think I can hear you? Come on. That’s (expletive) bull(expletive) … Make a decent call! Make a decent call!”

The Giants ended up scoring one run in the inning instead of putting up a crooked number. Fans were justifiably furious over the call as well.
