Former Hibs and Rangers star becomes first manager of new SPFL season to be sacked – after just ONE league game
RAITH ROVERS have sacked boss Ian Murray after just ONE league game this season.
The Starks Park club made the shock decision following yesterday’s 1-0 defeat to Airdrie.
Raith Rovers have parted company with Ian Murray[/caption]Murray, 43, has been on the job with the Championship outfit for just over two years.
But the former Hibs and Rangers midfielder was informed this morning he’s to be the first managerial casualty of the season.
Rovers won their first two League Cup clashes against Stirling Albion and Stranraer last month.
But they then lost to Ross County in the same competition begone drawing with Hamilton Accies.
That heaped pressure on Murray with the club’s board now reacting to yesterday’s 1-0 defeat to the Diamonds.
Rovers confirmed the news this afternoon.
The Kirkclady outfit said in a statement: “Raith Rovers Football Club can confirm it has parted company with First Team Manager Ian Murray.
“The board expresses its gratitude to Ian for his contributions since joining the club in May 2022.
“Despite finishing 2nd last season, results and performances since the turn of the year have fallen short of expectations. The board has therefore decided to terminate the manager’s contract.
“The process of appointing a new manager has begun. In the interim, Colin Cameron and John Potter will take on First Team duties until a successor is appointed.”
Rhys McCabe – the man who beat Murray yesterday – will be one of the leading contenders for the job.
