DJ Moore Admits Caleb Williams Was Biggest Reason He Signed Extension

0

DJ Moore getting a contract extension was something the Chicago Bears wanted to get done after his outstanding 2023 season. Even though he still had two years left on his current contract, GM Ryan Poles felt this was the type of star-caliber talent you lock up for the long term. On Tuesday, July 30th, the two sides reached an agreement. Moore got a four-year extension worth $110 million and $82.6 million guaranteed. What shocked a lot of people was how quickly things came together. One would think Moore might want to wait another year to see if he could push that number even higher.

Instead, he moved fast to ensure he would be in Chicago for the next six years. Why? He believes the Bears found something in Caleb Williams. At his latest press conference, Moore was asked point blank whether the arrival of the #1 overall pick was a factor in his agreeing to the extension so quickly. The receiver smiled and didn’t even try to hide it. He admitted his belief that Williams is destined for superstardom. He wasn’t about to let haggling over a few million ruin his chance to be part of that.

DJ Moore understands the opportunity in front of him.

Remember, this wide receiver has been paired with some rough quarterbacks since entering the league in 2018. He got a broken-down Cam Newton, Kyle Allen, Teddy Bridgewater, Sam Darnold, Baker Mayfield, and Justin Fields. No star power and zero stability. Many believe Williams has the capacity to become something special. The comparisons of Patrick Mahomes and Aaron Rodgers frequently come up. If Moore gets the same sense, it is no wonder he worked fast to ensure he’s in Chicago until 2030.

If Williams becomes who everybody thinks he can be, DJ Moore could retire as the all-time leading receiver in Bears history. That isn’t saying much considering the poor legacy of that position in Chicago, but it would be a step in the right direction. He is such a good player who has several prime years ahead of him. The trade to acquire him may go down as the greatest in franchise history, and its benefits have only started being felt. Moore can feel the buzz building. That is a great sign.
