UFC on ESPN 60 winner Luana Carolina reveals adversity she overcame to reach fight
LAS VEGAS – Luana Carolina defeated Lucie Pudilova on Saturday night at UFC on ESPN 60.
Carolina (11-4 MMA, 6-3 UFC) used solid performance for 15 minutes to claim a unanimous decision from Pudilova (14-10 MMA, 3-8 UFC) by scores of 29-28, 29-28 and 30-27 at the UFC Apex. It was Carolina’s third consecutive victory and afterward she revealed how she had to alter game plan because of an injury suffered during training camp.
“My game, yeah, that’s kicking. What a lot of people don’t know is that a month ago I actually broke my right foot,” Carolina said through an interpreter. “No one knew this. To my coaches and everybody at the PI, from the receptionist to the physical therapist, thank you so much for all the help. I asked God, if this is meant to be, I’m gonna give my all, and I’m gonna make it happen. And I did. …
“Even with all the hardships that we had, even throughout the weight cut I couldn’t move some stuff. We made it happen and fighting a fighter in a heavier weight division. To be able to do this, yes, I’m growing in the UFC.”
