How to Watch Liga MX 2024

0

Mexico’s largest soccer league has returned. Here’s how to keep up with the action all season long.

The 2024-25 Liga MX season has arrived.

The 18 teams of the league are set to compete in the first half of the season, the Apertura.

Last season, Club América won both halves of the season, the second time in the last three years that a team swept the season. Atlas did so in the 2021-22 season.

In the Clausura 2024, Club América won the league regular season with 35 points and went on to defeat Cruz Azul to win the final. Will the team have another huge season in 2024-25, or will we see a new name atop the Liga MX standings?

In the aggregate table–which combines both halves of the season to determine which teams participate in the CONCACAF Champions Cup–Club América finished last year with 75 points. Monterrey was second with 65 points, followed by UANL, Guadalajara and UNAM.

How is the Liga MX season structured?

The Liga MX season is divided into two tournaments. The Apertura runs from July to December, while the Clausura runs from January to May. Each tournament features a regular season in which each team plays each other, followed by a 12-team playoff to determine the champion.

Unlike many other leagues around the world, there is not one singular Liga MX champion unless the same team wins both the Apertura and the Clausura, as Club América did last year.

There is a Campeón de Campeones match at the start of the new season between the two teams that won the Apertura and Clausura the previous season.

In 2024, the event was replaced by the Supercopa de la Liga MX because the same team won both halves of last season. América defeated Tigres 2-1 in that competition.
