Man City consider £100m double transfer for Bayern Munich star desperate to join and Spain Euro 2024 ace
JOSHUA KIMMICH is keen for a second stint under Pep Guardiola – even though his old gaffer could pack his bags in 12 months.
Kimmich, a key figure in Germany’s Euro assault, has a year left on his Bayern Munich deal and is on the hit list of Real Madrid, Barcelona and Liverpool.
But Manchester City boss Guardiola is also interested… and the chance to link up with the manager who gave him his big break at Bayern in 2015 is swaying him towards the Etihad.
Kimmich’s camp want to hear if Pep plans to sign a deal to stay beyond next summer, yet the player is so determined to play under him again that he is willing to take a punt.
While Bayern boss Vincent Kompany is happy for him to stay, they would sooner let him go now for around £40million rather than lose him on a free 12 months down the line.
Kimmich, 29, also wants to play more in midfield, rather than right-back, where he has spent most of his career – especially with Kyle Walker nailing down that slot at the Etihad.
He reckons Guardiola’s track record of pushing defensive players into roles in the engine room, as he did with Joao Cancelo, makes it more likely in Manchester.
And in the manager’s eyes, Kimmich’s versatility in offering quality in the engine room as well as genuine competition to Walker is a huge plus.
Real and Barca have been in contact with Bayern bosses, but Kimmich – who is after around £200,000 a week – is said to favour the Premier League.
Meanwhile, City are still considering a return bid for Red Bull Leipzig midfielder Dani Olmo, 26, who was on their wish list 12 months ago.
Olmo, currently on Spain duty at the Euros, has a £60m release clause that remains active until July 15.
City have good relations with Leipzig after signing Josko Gvardiol last year.
And the fact Olmo would be nearly half the fee Newcastle would want for Bruno Guimaraes makes him more appealing.
