Scottie Scheffler's U.S. Open struggles ruined a $1M parlay tantalizingly close to cashing
Scottie Scheffler doesn’t struggle the way he did in this weekend’s U.S. Open very often. It’s why he was favored to win the tournament, yet still drew the overwhelming amount of action despite his short odds.
It’s more surprising when he isn’t in contention Sunday.
After the U.S. Open, you can consider a whole lot of people surprised — though we tried to warn people why he was a risky bet. Scheffler shot over par each round and finished the tournament 8-over for his worst showing in a long time.
Bettors paid dearly for their confidence. And one bettor in particular is really kicking themselves after adding Scheffler’s odds to finish top-10 in every major to a parlay that was otherwise close to cashing for $1 million.
This $1 Million parlay needs an absolute miracle from Scottie Scheffler to stay alive…

I mean, just look at that. The long-shot parlay had already come so far after South Carolina and UConn basketball titles, a Premier League title and the men’s French Open championship. The Celtics and Panthers legs hadn’t hit yet, but each were just one win away.
All that was left was Scheffler and a Dodgers title. And they didn’t even need Scheffler to win. Just finish top 10, as he had in just about every other tournament in 2024. Even before a Dodgers title, the cash out option would have been nice.
Instead, they get nothing. And that goes for all the other bettors who were riding Scheffler. And there were a lot. Scheffler accounted for at least 25% of the money wagered at five different sportsbooks, including a whopping 45% at BetMGM.
