That plan led to enormous success in high school, scholarships to Oklahoma and USC, a Heisman trophy, and the #1 overall pick in the draft. That job is done. Now comes the next goal. It would be easy for Williams to set the bar for making the Pro Bowl or winning an MVP. Those seem tangible. Once again, the young quarterback made it clear that when he aims, he aims high. There is a wallpaper on his phone with a list of his goals. At the top is “Eight Super Bowls.” That is the required number he will need to take down Tom Brady, who holds the NFL record of seven.

The future Hall of Famer has established himself as the greatest of all time. Nobody disputes that. Williams wants that mantle. Williams has the talent to thrive on the NFL level, but if he wants to reach Brady’s perch, he will have to make sacrifices few are ever willing to.

The good news is that the rookie seems to have the necessary work ethic. Coaches and teammates alike have described him as obsessive about details. He doesn’t just want to learn the scheme. He wants to learn why each play is run. The more he understands, the better prepared he becomes. That is an important first step for a young quarterback.
