Scottie Scheffler's dominance has snowballed into some wildly lopsided U.S. Open betting

It’s not even remotely shocking Scottie Scheffler is a +300 favorite in this week’s U.S. Open. Even in a field of more than 150 players.

The man has been an absolute buzz saw this year, collecting five wins — including the Masters — two runner-ups and 12 top-10 finishes in 13 events.

It is somewhat stunning the amount of action he’s received from bettors to drop those odds from where they opened at +750, though. Even with Scheffler’s dominance leaving so much value on the rest of the field, bettors aren’t taking a risk on anyone else at Pinehurst.

At BetMGM, nearly a quarter of all tickets on a champion have Scheffler winning (24.2%). And he’s commanding almost half of the money wagered at 44.7%, making him the biggest liability at the book.

After finishing third and second, respectively, in his last two U.S. Open appearances, Scheffler certainly seems primed to win it for the first time in his career, entering the 2024 tournament with five wins in his last eight starts.

He’s been so good, BetMGM has a market for a winner without Scheffler. Xander Schauffele is favored at +900, but Collin Morikawa is receiving the majority of action at 15.2% of tickets and 21% of the handle.
