12 photos and videos of Olympic trials pools being built in Lucas Oil Stadium

0

For the 2024 Olympic swimming trials, USA Swimming tried something a little different. Specifically, a venue change in moving from Omaha, Nebraska to Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis.

It’s the first time in history that U.S. Olympic trials are being held at a football stadium — this one is normally the home of the Indianapolis Colts — which allows more fans to attend and more space and amenities for athletes trying to qualify for the 2024 Summer Games.

Constructing three temporary pools — one for competition and two for warming up and down — from scratch is no easy feat, and we detailed exactly how they were built and filled with 1.8 million gallons of water. The whole thing took about four weeks and 200 workers to build, temporarily making it the biggest natatorium in the nation.

The final product is amazing, but the construction process is pretty visually stunning too. So here’s a look at how the U.S. Olympic swimming trials pools were built through 12 photos and videos, including a full time-lapse video.
