FANS have been left gutted that a Premier League cult hero will reportedly not be following Vincent Kompany to Bayern Munich.

The Burnley boss will take over from Thomas Tuchel, who announced his departure last week, despite being relegated with just 24 points this season.

Bayern chiefs had been scouting a new manager for months, but following failed attempts to secure the likes of Xabi Alonso, Julian Nagelsmann, Ralf Rangnick and Oliver Glasner they turned to Kompany.

The 38-year-old could take some members of his coaching staff to Germany when he completes the move.

And fans had thought that would mean ex-Premier League star Craig Bellamy, Kompany’s assistant manager at the Clarets, would go with him.

The former Liverpool, Newcastle and Man City striker has been working with Kompany since his Anderlecht days.

And supporters were surprised at the prospect of the combustible former footballer coaching the three-time Champions League winners.

One person said it would be the “most Football Manager thing to happen in actual football” this season.

Another wrote: “Kompany going to manage Bayern is like playing Football Manager a few years down the line when all these wacky transfers and appointments happen. Crazy.”

A third commented: “If Vincent Kompany ends up being the next @FCBayernEN manager it’ll be the most Football Manager thing ever. Imagine Craig Bellamy throwing fits in German ????.”

While a fourth fan said: “Vincent Kompany relegating Burnley and then getting the Bayern Munich job is some proper Football Manager style shenanigans.”

However, according to The Mail, Bellamy is not expected to follow Kompany to Munich.

Kompany and Bellamy failed to keep Burnley in the Premier League this season.

The Clarets were relegated back down to the Championship after finishing 19th in the table.

Kompany was appointed as Burnley boss in 2022 and guided the club to promotion at the first time of asking.

Prior to then he spent two years at Anderlecht.

Bellamy joined him in Belgium and the two have worked together since.

Before becoming a coach, the 44-year-old made 294 Premier League appearances.

He played for Newcastle, Cardiff, Norwich, Liverpool, Manchester City, Coventry, Blackburn, West Ham and Celtic.
