Hot Shooting Mavericks Handle Thunder in Game 5 to Take Series Lead
The Dallas Mavericks shot 53 percent from the field, made 14 three-pointers and outrebounded the Oklahoma City Thunder by 13 on their way to a 104-92 win in Game 5 of their Western Conference semifinal series on Wednesday night in Oklahoma City.
The Mavericks took a 3-2 series lead in game that was very similar to Game 4 in Dallas on Monday, except this time the Thunder had no late rally to come from behind and win.
The Thunder's last lead was 8-7 and Dallas led by as many as 18 points.
Luka Doncic led the Mavs with a triple double, with 31 points, 10 rebounds, and 11 assists.
The Thunder shot just 43 percent from the field, and trailed by 10 at halftime.
OKC never got closer than seven in the second half, making 90-83 with just over 5 minutes to play.
Shai Gilgeous-Alexander led the Thunder with 30 points and added 8 assists.
Four other Thunder players scored in double figures, but none were close to 20 points.
Chet Holmgren had 13 points, while both Jalen Williams and Luguentz Dort had 12 points each, and Josh Giddey added 11 points.
Dallas had five in double figure scoring, with Derrick Jones, Jr. scoring 19 points, including several spectacular dunks.
Game 6 is Saturday night at 7:30 in Dallas.
The Thunder have won just one series in which they've trailed 3 games to 2, beating Memphis in 2014.
OKC is 1-4 in series when they trail 3-2.
