‘That’s f***ing hilarious’, say fans as Crystal Palace reveal asking price for Oliver Glasner as Bayern chase boss

FANS declared “that’s f*****g hilarious” after Crystal Palace demanded £86million from Bayern Munich to poach Oliver Glasner.

The Austrian manager, 49, only joined the Eagles in February as Roy Hodgson’s replacement.

He has since impressed with six wins and just three defeats in 12 outings.

Glasner has got Palace playing some beautiful football too, as seen in last week’s 4-0 demolition of Manchester United.

And Bild claims his short-term success attracted interest from Bayern earlier this month.

The fallen German giants, who lost their perennial Bundesliga crown to Bayer Leverkusen after an 11-year run, will part ways with Thomas Tuchel this summer.

Bayern have already been snubbed by a host of managers including Xabi Alonso, Julian Nagelsmann, Unai Emery and Ralf Rangnick.

After the latter backed out of a deal after initially agreeing terms, it’s reckoned Bayern swiftly turned to Glasner in the hope of luring him from London to Bavaria.

The former Eintracht Frankfurt and Wolfsburg boss was reportedly keen on ditching Palace after less than three months.

And after holding positive talks with Glasner, Bayern presented the Eagles with an offer worth over £15m.

But Palace chief Steve Parish quickly ended the Germans’ hopes of a deal by demanding an eye-watering £86m fee.

It means Bayern will once again be forced to look elsewhere for a new manager.

And Eagles fans reacted with pure glee after fending off interest in their boss.

One declared: “That is f*****g hilarious.”

Another boomed: “I’ve heard of ‘f**k off’ prices before. But that? That is special.”

One noted: “It’s funny because Glasner had literally just joined Palace when they first announced Tuchel was going.

“If Bayern had been organised, they could have had him easily.”

Another added: “Can’t blame Palace, he’s only been there five minutes.”

Bayern's never-ending search for a new boss

Who's out of the running?

  • Xabi Alonso (Bayer Leverkusen)
  • Julian Nagelsmann (Germany)
  • Unai Emery (Aston Villa)
  • Ralf Rangnick (Austria)
  • Oliver Glasner (Crystal Palace)
  • Pep Guardiola (Man City)
  • Ruben Amorim (Sporting Lisbon)
  • Zinedine Zidane (Unattached)

Who could take charge?

  • Hansi Flick (Unattached)
  • Roberto De Zerbi (Brighton)
  • Erik ten Hag (Man Utd)
  • Jose Mourinho (Unattached)
  • Antonio Conte (Unattached)
  • Maurizio Sarri (Unattached)
  • Stefan Pioli (AC Milan)

Bayern are quickly running out of viable options after also seeing Ruben Amorim declare his loyalty to Sporting Lisbon.

Zinedine Zidane is reportedly uninterested in taking charge.

While even Man City boss Pep Guardiola has been forced to reject talk of a return through his representatives.

It may leave Brighton’s Roberto De Zerbi as one of the most likely options following strong links earlier this year.

Bayern could also look at a return for former B-team boss Erik ten Hag, who is under huge pressure at Manchester United.

Elsewhere, Jose Mourinho is still searching for a new club.

And Italian title-winning trio Antonio Conte, Maurizio Sarri and Stefano Piolo will also be available.

But the bookies’ favourite is Hansi Flick, who quit Bayern for the German national team in 2021 after winning the Treble a year earlier.

He has been out of work since September after a dismal spell in international football and has also been linked with Chelsea.
