After the Denver Nuggets sent Los Angeles home in five games during the first round of the playoffs, the franchise has officially reached a crossroads it was hoping to avoid awhile longer. LeBron James can opt out of his contract — and may do so to fulfill his long-stated goal of playing in the league with his son, Bronny James, who is in the NBA Draft this year. While the Lakers may be entertaining the idea of drafting the younger James, that certainly won’t solve all of this team’s issues.
Los Angeles’ head coach Darvin Ham has a ton of explaining to do about how he handled this year’s team in both the regular season — the in-season tournament notwithstanding — and the playoffs. A clip of Austin Reaves begging his way back onto the floor in Game 5 against the Nuggets won’t help Ham’s case.
