Jake Paul opens as a surprisingly small favorite against 58-year-old Mike Tyson

It was announced on Monday that the bout between Mike Tyson and Jake Paul on July 20 will be a sanctioned, professional fight that will count towards their records. The heavyweight fight will have eight, two-minute rounds and each fighter will have 14-ounce gloves.

And such a high-profile fight — even though Tyson (50-6, 44 KOs) will be 58 at the fight, a record 31 years older than Paul — must have betting odds.

The Westgate Las Vegas SuperBook opened with Paul a -180 favorite and Tyson a +150 underdog on Monday; by Tuesday, Paul was up to a -250 favorite with Tyson a +200 ‘dog.

Tyson, the former heavyweight champion, hasn’t competed professionally in 20 years and last fought Roy Jones Jr. in an eight-round exhibition fight in 2020. That fight ended in a split draw.

Paul’s rise in the combat sports world actually began on the undercard of that Tyson-Jones card in 2020, when Paul knocked out former NBA player Nate Robinson. Paul (9-1, 6 KOs) lost the first fight of his career to Tommy Fury last year, and then KO’d Andre August and Ryan Bourland before setting up this bout against Tyson.

Where will the Paul-Tyson odds ends up by July? Chances are if you want to bet Paul, doing so sooner rather later would be the move.
