Scottie Scheffler approaching prime Tiger Woods territory as PGA Championship favorite

0

There is no question who the best golfer in the world is at the moment — Scottie Scheffler made that clear in winning The Masters this past weekend, pulling away on Sunday to win the tournament at -11, four shots better than the field. Scheffler entered the tournament as a +400 favorite, which was the shortest odds for any golfer since Tiger Woods was a +350 favorite to win The Masters all the way back in 2013.

According to Sports Odds History, Scheffler was the first player to win The Masters as a pre-tournament favorite since Woods in 2005.

Scheffler has now won three times already this PGA Tour season — in his last four events — and the only event he didn’t win that he played in the last month, he finished tied for second.

Scheffler has opened as a +400 favorite to win the PGA Championship (May 16-19 at Valhalla Golf Course in Louisville, Kentucky), which are the shortest odds for any golfer to win that tournament since …. yes, Woods was +400 in 2013.

With such short odds, Scheffler likely won’t be a huge liability for sportsbooks, but it’s an interesting storyline to follow as the season progresses.
