Fighters make weight for Japanese title double header
Tomorrow at Korakuen Hall we get a mouth watering show featuring two Champion Carnival bouts, both of which are highly anticipated bouts that could give us some really intriguing action. Today, ahead of those two bouts, the men involved took part in their weigh in.
The main event of the card will see Japanese Light Welterweight champion Homura Fujita (12-1, 10) [藤田裕崇] defending his title against Kuntae Lee (6-0-1, 2) [李健太], in what will be Fujita’s third defense of his title and Lee’s first shot at a belt. On the scales both men came in bang on the 140lb limit and both looked in great shape.
At the weigh in Fujita spoke about being in great condition, and whilst others are suggesting this is a bout between his power and the skills of Kenta, he's suggested that Kenta also has power, but that his own offense was going to be the key to the bout. Notably he revealed he is now a full time boxer, leaving his previous job as a recruiter in December. He spoke about not caring of how the bout goes as long as he wins, and it seemed clear he sees this as being a tougher defense than his last two.
As for Lee, who was a stand out amateur and went 102-10 in the unpaid ranks and won 62 straight bouts, he explained that this was a long awaited match and that he was in great condition. He looked confident throughout, and seemed to realise that Fujita was especially dangerous early on but that he was going to see out the storm and stop Fujita in the middle rounds.
The other title bout on this show will see Japanese Lightweight champion Shuma Nakazato (14-2-3, 8) [仲里周磨] defending his title against mandatory challenger Hironori Mishiro (14-1-1, 4) [三代大訓], in a rematch of a 2017 Dangan tournament final, which saw Mishrio take a win and give Nakazato his first professional defeat. Nakazato, defending the Japanese title for the second time, was comfortably under the limit as he hit the scales at 134.5lbs, the exact same weight as the challenger.
Speaking about the bout Nakazato spoke about getting revenge for his loss, and that he had a huge desire to have this rematch, whilst explaining he wasn't happy about his performance in the first clash between the two. He spoke confidently of picking up the win, and using his sharpness and explosivity to take the victory and retain his title.
As for Mishiro he explained he was looking forward to the bout, as it's his first title bout since December 2019, when he was the OPBF Super Featherweight champion. As he's moved up to Lightweight his goal is to claim the 3 titles, Japanese, OPBF and WBO Asia Pacific. Much like Nakazato he seemed determined to pick up the win and the title, no matter what.
