Oakland's massive upset of Kentucky had college basketball in awe of Jack Gohlke and Co.
It had been a pretty quiet start to March Madness on Thursday. Aside from No. 7 Dayton’s comeback against No. 10 Nevada and No. 11 Duquesne upsetting No. 6 BYU, there wasn’t a true “MARCH!” moment.
Then the world was introduced to Jack Gohlke and the Oakland Golden Grizzlies.
The three-point wizard and senior guard for No. 14 Oakland lit up the No. 3 Kentucky Wildcats in Pittsburgh for an 80-76 victory. Gohlke made 10 three-pointers on 20 attempts for 32 points as the Grizzlies advanced to the second round for the first time in school history.
It was another stunning exit for Kentucky, which lost to No. 15 St. Peter’s two years ago as a two-seed and fell to Kansas State in the second round last March. Now it falls as a top seed and 12.5-point favorite.
College basketball fans were beside themselves watching it all unfold.
