Celtic hero Neil Lennon’s son, 18, ‘targeted with vile bullets in the post abuse’ in front of his mum

COPS are probing claims a footie bar boss made a sickening “bullets in the post” jibe at Neil Lennon’s rising star son in front of the ex-Celtic boss’s partner.

The alleged taunt aimed at Gallagher Lennon sparked fury when it’s believed the player’s mum Irene McCloy, 49, overheard it when Dumbarton were playing East Fife on Saturday.

Sources say the man launched his alleged tirade after Gallagher, 18, made a mistake during the Sons’ 3-2 defeat at Bayview Stadium in Methil, Fife.

A source said: “The guy shouted something along the lines of ‘Send me your address so I can send bullets to your da’.

“Neil Lennon’s long-term partner was sitting nearby and heard this alleged remark.

“She was absolutely furious, saying, ‘That’s my partner and son you’re talking about’.

“She is then said to have confronted the man who subsequently apologised.

“However, she obviously wasn’t happy with that and the cops were called in on Monday.”

Promising defender Gallagher joined Sons on loan from top flight St Mirren in January on a deal until the end of this season.

The League Two side are locked in a battle for promotion with the Fifers who are in fifth spot, six points behind fourth-placed Dumbarton, bossed by Stevie Farrell.

Sons were 2-1 up in the fixture before a fightback that saw Dick Campbell’s side score a last-gasp winner to seal the points.

The alleged incident is understood to have happened after Gallagher made an error in the closely-fought encounter.

We told how Gallagher’s Hoops legend dad Neil, 52, was one of three ex-Hoops stars including Paddy McCourt and Niall McGinn who were targeted by sectarian yobs who sent them bullets in the post.

Cops were called in after the parcels were intercepted by postal staff at a sorting office in January 2011.

Two months later, deadly parcel bombs were sent to Northern Irishman Lennon at Parkhead and Celts’ Lennoxtown training HQ by brutes Trevor Muirhead and Neil McKenzie.

Lennon later told how he was close to quitting the Parkhead hotseat in the wake of the sickening threats.

He said: “I came very close to it, yeah, when the devices which were sent to me turned out to be viable ones.

“I thought about my family and kids.”

It’’s understood the man accused of making the latest alleged remarks works in Dumbarton’s club bar but has been banned from attending home games while the cop probe continues.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Enquiries are ongoing after police received a report of threatening behaviour towards a Dumbarton football player on Saturday.

“The matter was reported to police on Monday, March 11.”

A statement on the Sons website said: “Dumbarton Football Club can confirm that we are aware of an alleged incident that took place at our match away to East Fife on Saturday, and this is being investigated by Police Scotland.

“The club has, and will continue, to offer support to the player involved and his family.

“Dumbarton Football Club adheres to a zero tolerance policy and will cooperate fully with the ongoing investigation.

“The club will make no further comment at this time.”
