Michael Bisping wants to see Michael Page vs. Ian Machado Garry in UFC welterweight title eliminator
Michael Bisping thinks Michael Page should get a jump up in competition for his next fight.
Page (22-2 MMA, 1-0 UFC) entered the top 15 of the welterweight rankings after he outstruck a frustrated Kevin Holland (25-11 MMA, 12-8 UFC) in his promotional debut this past Saturday at UFC 299.
Page turns 37 next month, so Bisping thinks the time has to be now if he wants to fulfill his title aspirations. The opponent he sees getting him there is Ian Machado Garry (14-0 MMA, 7-0 UFC), who’s coming off a win over Geoff Neal at UFC 298.
“Ian Machado Garry is at No. 6. I think you leapfrog Michael Page right up to a No. 6 fight with Ian Machado Garry,” Bisping said on his YouTube channel.
Bisping also sees it as an entertaining stylistic matchup that would be a striker’s delight.
“As a fan, I would love to see that fight,” Bisping said. “They’re both very tall. Ian Garry is (6-foot-3), Michael Page is 6’3. They’re both strikers. They’re not going to wrestle. We’re going to see two tremendously talented strikers throwing down, and it would be a lot of fun.”
Bisping went as far as setting up a potential all U.K. title showdown, where he’d like to see a fight between Page and Garry declared a No. 1 contender bout.
“The winner of that fight between Michael Page and Ian Garry potentially then would get to fight Leon Edwards in a stadium in the U.K.,” Bisping suggested. “Could you imagine that? For all of those reasons, Ian Garry, Michael Page, take my money, sign me up.”
