Why Justin Fields And Caleb Williams Won’t Share A Team

There’s been talk about the Bears drafting Caleb Williams while keeping Justin Fields, but I don’t think that’s a viable option. GM Ryan Poles has expressed a commitment to doing right by Fields, and having both quarterbacks on the roster would create awkward dynamics and likely lead to even more drama. Starting Williams could lead to fan backlash if he struggles, as rookie quarterbacks often do. The likelihood of Williams having a standout rookie year like CJ Stroud is slim.

Former Bear Kyle Long suggested keeping Fields as QB2 could allow the Bears to trade him mid-season for maximum value, leveraging the need for quarterbacks that arises when starters get injured. At this moment, all we have are speculations and opinion regarding Justin Fields trade rumors. And the Bears are currently assessing Caleb Williams. Personally, I don’t think it’s a fair option for the Bears to keep Fields if they genuinely want draft Williams. However, as Kyle Long mentioned to me, the league isn’t concerned with emotions. They do not care about how you feel.

What happens at QB?

My prediction is that Justin Fields will be traded, and the Bears will hand the keys to the franchise over to Caleb Williams. For the sake of Chicago, I hope they aren’t both on the team during training camp. While it would be great for Hard Knocks (if it happens), it would be terrible for the fans/players as it would be a media firestorm every single day. So, if Ryan Poles wants to do right by Fields and maintain fans sanity, he’ll need to choose which quarterback to commit to before the NFL draft.
