Iowa’s Caitlin Clark Announces Decision to Enter 2024 WNBA Draft

One of college sports’ great careers is drawing to a close.

With the end of one of college sports’ great careers in sight, Iowa guard Caitlin Clark is eyeing her next chapter.

Clark will enter the 2024 WNBA Draft, she formally announced in a social media post Thursday afternoon. The all-time leading scorer in major women’s college basketball could have theoretically returned for a fifth season due to the COVID-19 pandemic, but is opting to turn professional.

“While this season is far from over and we have a lot more goals to achieve, it will be my last one at Iowa,” Clark wrote. “It is impossible to fully express my gratitude to everyone who has supported me during my time at Iowa … because of all of you, my dreams came true.”

Clark is a three-time AP All-American, and her selection for a fourth team appears a formality. In 129 career games, she has posted career averages of 28.3 points, 7.1 rebounds and 8.1 assists per game—while helping elevate the profile of women’s college basketball in the United States.

The Hawkeyes, ranked sixth in the country, host No. 2 Ohio State Sunday afternoon in colossal showdown with Clark 17 points shy of tying LSU guard Pete Maravich’s all-gender NCAA scoring record.

The Indiana Fever hold the No. 1 pick in the upcoming 2024 WNBA draft, which is set for April 15 in Brooklyn.
