Germany mourn loss of 1990 World Cup winner Andreas Brehme, 63

February 23 – Andreas Brehme, the scorer of the goal that won West Germany the 1990 World Cup, has died at the age of 63 following a cardiac arrest.

Brehme’s partner Susanne Schaefer confirmed the news in a statement, saying he died “suddenly and unexpectedly” in the night from a cardiac arrest.

Brehme was just 63 and will be remembered in football history as the winning goalscorer for the old West Germany the 1990 World Cup final against Argentina in Rome.
