Dell Curry Calls Seth Curry’s Hornets Debut in Heartwarming Father-Son Homecoming

0

Former Sixth Man of the Year Dell Curry was the Charlotte Hornet once upon a time—as in, he was the first player taken by the franchise from the Cleveland Cavaliers in the 1988 NBA expansion draft.

Curry enjoyed a long and fruitful career with the Hornets, helping guide the team from infancy to adolescence. Charlotte made four playoff appearances during his tenure and won legions of fans in a basketball-crazy region.

Now, 26 years after Dell's last season with the Hornets, a Curry is back in the Tar Heel State on a professional basis. After being traded by the Dallas Mavericks on Thursday, journeyman guard Seth Curry debuted for Charlotte on Saturday against the Memphis Grizzlies with his father Dell calling the game for Bally Sports South.

"I know him," Dell deadpanned when Seth checked into the game for the first time, wearing his father's trademark No. 30.

Before the game, Dell shared what Seth's trade from the Mavericks meant to him.

"It's a dream come true as a dad that played here for 10 years to have your son play and wear the same number," Dell said. "I haven't stopped smiling since the trade was made and now it all comes to fruition."

Seth finished the contest with three points, three rebounds, one assist, and one proud father.
