Purdue Star Zach Edey Splashing First Career Three-Pointer Sent Fans Into Frenzy

0

Purdue center Zach Edey's College Basketball-Reference page is basically a rundown of everything one can possibly accomplish in college basketball.

In four years with the Boilermakers, Edey has been the AP Player of the Year, an All-American and the Big Ten Player of the Year, creating a résumé unmatched in men's college basketball.

Yet a three-pointer had eluded the big man, whose traditionalism flies in the face—for better or for worse—of the 21st-century stretch-five.

On Saturday night, though, that statistical distinction changed.

With a little over six minutes remaining in a game No. 2 Purdue had well in hand against Indiana, Edey shocked a wired Mackey Arena by pulling up for three. He calmly banked the shot in, sending the crowd into hysterics.

"Who says he can't hit threes? What? Who said it? I dare you!" an ecstatic Gus Johnson screamed from Fox's commentary table.

Edey missed his sole previous three-point attempt, on Dec. 29 in an 80-53 win over Eastern Kentucky.
