Why Uber Eats changed its Super Bowl commercial over a peanut butter joke, explained
If you watch the 2024 Super Bowl on Sunday, you’ll notice an Uber Eats commercial starring some big names including Friends stars Jennifer Aniston and David Schwimmer, along with David and Victoria Beckham.
But the version you’ll see during the big game will be different than the one that circulated before Sunday. And there’s a very specific reason why.

It’s because it’s an ad that focuses on the concept of: if you remember something, you have to forget something else (we’re not sure if that’s actually true!). And in the original commercial, someone with hives all over his face is eating peanut butter, presumably forgetting that he had a peanut allergy.
The folks at Food Allergy Research and Education criticized the ad, disappointed that it would make light of something life-threatening. Uber Eats announced it would change it for the Super Bowl. FARE was happy with that outcome:
This is an amazing outcome. FARE would like to thank Uber for listening to our community and making the changes to their Super Bowl ad. After talking with them today, I believe we have a new ally in helping us navigate our journey with our disease.
