Texans’ C.J. Stroud Reacts in Real Time to Ohio State Reportedly Hiring Chip Kelly
So far, Ohio State coach Ryan Day's greatest success story with the Buckeyes might be the odyssey of Houston Texans quarterback C.J. Stroud.
After back-to-back finishes in the top four of the Heisman voting, the Texans took Stroud with the No. 2 pick in the 2023 NFL draft. Immediately defying the most generous predictions for his first year, Stroud was named the AP's Offensive Rookie of the Year and took Houston to the playoffs one year after it finished 3-13-1.
During an interview with Yahoo Sports on Friday, Stroud was surprised in real time with a surprising report on the future of Ohio State. The program reportedly is set to hire UCLA coach Chip Kelly as its next offensive coordinator.
"Oh, that happened?" Stroud asked upon being told the news. "Oh, wow. Breaking news to me."

Asked what he thought of Kelly's fit with a program mired in a relative rut—the Buckeyes haven't beaten rival Michigan since 2019—Stroud expressed optimism.
"I love Coach Day. He's developed me into a great quarterback for this league," Stroud said. "I think Chip's gonna be an amazing fit. He coached Coach Day in college (at New Hampshire), and that's kind of where Coach Day got all his offensive thoughts from. ... I'm excited to see what Ohio State does this year."
