Patriots to Hire Ex-Browns OC as Offensive Coordinator, per Report
The New England Patriots reportedly have a new offensive coordinator for a new era.
Former Cleveland Browns offensive coordinator Alex Van Pelt will be the Patriots' next offensive coordinator, according to a Thursday afternoon report from Tom Pelissero of NFL Network.
Van Pelt, 53, was dismissed by the Browns on Jan. 17—four days after the team's 45-14 loss to the Houston Texans in an AFC wild card game.
In his four-year tenure with Cleveland, Van Pelt's offenses consistently ranked in the middle of the pack league-wide—never finishing higher than 14th or lower than 18th in total yards.
The reported hire comes 20 days after New England named inside linebackers coach Jerod Mayo its head coach, replacing departed legend Bill Belichick.

Van Pelt played nine years in the NFL as primarily a backup quarterback for the Buffalo Bills. Beginning in NFL Europe with the Frankfurt Galaxy in 2005, he worked his way up the coaching food chain before being hired to replace Todd Monken with the Browns in 2020.
